EXCLUSIVE COVER REVEAL FOR BENEDICT CUMBERBATCH, IN TRANSITIONWe’re excited to reveal the final, full cover of MX Publishing’s upcoming release Benedict Cumberbatch, In Transition - An Unauthorised Performance Biography, with twenty of his projects represented in a floating ‘Mind Palace’ design - can you spot them all?
The book is written by Lynnette Porter, and is an intensively researched look at Benedict’s work across film, television, radio and stage, intended to examine his past roles ahead of the release of Star Trek Into Darkness.
Lynnette has sent us the following statement on her aims for the project.
Like Sherlock, I tend to focus on “the work”—or, in this book, the work of a highly talented actor, Benedict Cumberbatch. Seldom does a single actor become so well known for exceptional work in a variety of media:  television, film, theatre, radio. Benedict Cumberbatch, In Transition is a performance biography; it includes in-depth discussions of well-known roles, such as Sherlock Holmes, but also roles that have been important to his career but may not be as familiar to fans, such as George Tesman in Hedda Gabler. Chapters cover Mr. Cumberbatch’s performances in theatre, from early roles doing Shakespeare in the park to more recent leads in After the Dance and Frankenstein; pre-Sherlock television (from very brief guest roles to miniseries leads) and film; and serious radio dramas like Copenhagen as well as the treasure that is Cabin Pressure. In many ways, Mr. Cumberbatch’s career is the perfect “case study” of a rising star who receives not only a great deal of critical acclaim and fan love but also intensive media scrutiny and potential backlash about what he says or does. In three chapters I explain the differences among an actor’s private, personal, and professional lives and the nature of celebrity. In short, Benedict Cumberbatch is In Transition to international stardom, and this book explores how and why his journey requires a closer look.
The book is due to be published on June 10 2013.
You can preorder from Amazon UK or The Book Depository for international delivery.
For updates on the book, head to the dedicated page on Facebook, and follow Lynnette Porter on Twitter.

Filming begins on Sherlock S3E2: The Sign of Three

Principal photography has begun today on the second episode of Sherlock Series Three.

Sherlock S3E2: The Sign of Three
Written by Stephen Thompson, Directed by Colm McCarthy

The episode will film over the next few weeks and will complete shooting next month. Following the wrap on The Sign of Three, a long scheduled break in production will occur to allow cast and crew to fulfil other commitments. Production will then resume later in the summer with the filming of Sherlock S3E3. The final episode in Series Three will be written by Steven Moffat, but the director is currently unannounced.

As previously noted, this is the first time the episodes in a series of Sherlock are being produced in episode order. Series One saw production begin with S1E3: The Great Game, followed by S1E2: The Blind Banker and S1E1: A Study in Pink, while Series Two commenced with S2E2: The Hounds of Baskerville, then S2E3: The Reichenbach Fall and S2E1: A Scandal in Belgravia.

And finally, as we said when S3E1: The Empty Hearse started production, these are our promises to our readers:

- We will never reveal ANY plot spoilers for the new series ahead of the broadcast of the new episodes unless they are officially sanctioned for release by the production team.

- We are not able to publicise any location filming that we may become aware of ahead of time due to issues of confidentiality, and the possibility of impacting the work of the cast and crew. Large numbers of people standing in a crowd have the potential to affect the filming, and we will be trying our best to ensure the crew has a minimum of disruption.

SHERLOCKOLOGY WIN SHORTY AWARD…AGAIN!

Last week on Monday April 8 2013, Sherlockology again won the Shorty Award for Best Fansite in Social Media during a glittering ceremony hosted by Felicia Day held at the Times Center in New York City, sharing joint first place with fansite @1Dneews.

As is traditional at the Shorty Awards, we were restricted to a pre-prepared speech lasting no more than the 140 character length of a Tweet, and so our only choice was to once again dedicate the award to those that had put us there on that stage - the fans of BBC Sherlock:

We are accepting this award on behalf of all our followers.
Without you guys there wouldn’t be a Sherlockology.
Thanks for believing in us.

For the second year running, we remain indebted to everyone who follows us, be it those just reading material on our website, or the thousands who view the content we post on our Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, YouTube, Instagram and Pinterest accounts. Sherlockology remains the greatest success we’ve ever accidentally had, never ceasing to surprise us every day with the interaction and chances it has afforded us to reach out to you, our readers.

You can read the full article over on our website.

The Shorty Awards start soon in New York City…

…and we’re nominated for Best Fansite in Social Media! You’ll be able to watch the event, hosted by Felicia Day, tonight at 7.30pm ET - or to make it easier, when the clock stops ticking down in the video widget we’ve embedded below!

SHERLOCK S2E3: THE REICHENBACH FALL TRAILER

Presenting the sixth in our series of exclusive trailers edited by Lee Dawson!

Concerning Hobbits (and Sherlock)

“Martin essentially is a hobbit, and by that I mean he’s a wonderful British character who was reluctant to leave the Shire and uproot his idyllic home life. (He doesn’t, to the best of my knowledge, have hairy feet.) He was also reluctant to let down his Sherlock co-star, Benedict Cumberbatch, and the BBC, by deserting their second series, which clashed with our dates. He’s an honourable man and a wonderful actor. Once he’d read, the filmmakers knew they’d found their Bilbo. When the date clash occurred, we went into overdrive to tape alternatives to present to Peter [Jackson] but the realisation grew that Peter, Fran [Walsh] and Philippa [Boyens] would never settle on anyone else in that role and so the plan was hatched to accommodate his Sherlock dates, by filming other cast members and editing the movies during his absences.”

- Amy Hubbard, UK Casting Director, taken from The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey - Chronicles Volume II: Creatures and Characters.

The second in an ongoing series of superb hardcovers detailing the production of the movie trilogy, the extensively illustrated and detailed book covers the creation of all the myriad beings of Middle Earth as seen in the first film, from Stone Giants to Sebastian the Hedgehog!

The book is published on April 8 2013 in the UK and April 9 2013 in the USA.
