Sherlock Holmes Fans Break All Publishing Records - Again.
The worldwide popularity of Sherlock Holmes has been proved once again by a group of 40 volunteer translators who have, in record time, helped create 7 new language versions of the groundbreaking book ‘Sherlock’s Home, The Empty House’. The new versions were released on Amazon UK this week [click here] following an intense few months of translations - funded by fans through a project on Kickstarter.
The original English language book broke all sorts of records last year when it was created to raise awareness for the Save Undershaw campaign (please visit and ‘like’ their Facebook Page), which is working to save the former home of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (ACD). Without Undershaw, where ACD brought Holmes back to life and where he wrote classics like The Hound of The Baskervilles, many argue there would be no Sherlock Holmes today. Can you image life without BBC Sherlock for example?
The original book:
- was produced by Sherlockology and MX Publishing within 4 weeks
- had entries from over 300 writers/actors/fans from around the world to select from, with 40 stories/poems/writings being selected
- Has contributions from Holmes actors Stephen Fry, Mark Gatiss, Douglas Wilmer and many more
- Was the first time permission has been given for all 4 major actors to appear on a book cover. Benedict Cumberbatch sitting alongside other Holmes legends like Jeremy Brett
- Made the deadline for the appearance in the High Court to fight the destruction of the house by less than 24 hours - the books were delivered the afternoon before
The book represents the passion and support that Sherlock Holmes fans have for the author and the important building which they want to see as a legacy for future generations of Holmes fans.
Everyone involved should be truly proud of the project which will create awareness for Save Undershaw for years to come. A huge thank-you to all involved. Please share this news far and wide.

INTRODUCING… SHERLOCKABILIA
We’re excited to bring you the next stage in the Sherlockology experience - our own online store, featuring premium quality products inspired by the BBC Series, as well as a one-stop place to find the Holmes related books of MX Publishing.
The primary aim of Sherlockabilia is not simply selling merchandise however, and we’re going to be brutally honest here.
Sherlockology is a website funded fully from our own pockets, and recently costs have started to mount up. Though we have been relying on kind donations and advertising revenue, costs for maintaining the website continue to rise. So we have decided to open Sherlockabilia, stocked with a growing range of exclusive and varied products, to help fund our server costs, and expenses for the travel we undertake to bring you content on the website like features and reviews. Sherlockology is a website that remains not for profit, and the funds raised from any sales on Sherlockabilia are not going into our wallets. We love running the site and everything that it entails, and wish to keep doing so.
Sherlockabilia is very much a work in progress, and we aim to continue to expand the range we offer in the future.
So take a look around, and do let us know if there’s anything YOU would like us to produce for sale on the store. We hope you like some of the Holmes inspired merchandise we have come up with so far.
We’re particularly fond of a certain blue Scarf, and black umbrella for example….
Visit the store at www.sherlockabilia.com. Most items, with exceptions, ship worldwide. If they require special shipping requirements, the product listing will have further information.
Just a little note - two years ago today, we set up a little Twitter account named Sherlockology, which has grown into something that completely eclipses any expectations we may have had on May 11 2011.
So on what is effectively our second Birthday, we just wanted to say a big thank you to you and the hundreds of thousands of others who follow us on our social media accounts and on our website!
Now, we’re off to celebrate with lunch at Speedy’s Cafe! Thanks everyone!
SHERLOCKOLOGY WIN SHORTY AWARD…AGAIN!
Last week on Monday April 8 2013, Sherlockology again won the Shorty Award for Best Fansite in Social Media during a glittering ceremony hosted by Felicia Day held at the Times Center in New York City, sharing joint first place with fansite @1Dneews.
As is traditional at the Shorty Awards, we were restricted to a pre-prepared speech lasting no more than the 140 character length of a Tweet, and so our only choice was to once again dedicate the award to those that had put us there on that stage - the fans of BBC Sherlock:
We are accepting this award on behalf of all our followers.
Without you guys there wouldn’t be a Sherlockology.
Thanks for believing in us.
For the second year running, we remain indebted to everyone who follows us, be it those just reading material on our website, or the thousands who view the content we post on our Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, YouTube, Instagram and Pinterest accounts. Sherlockology remains the greatest success we’ve ever accidentally had, never ceasing to surprise us every day with the interaction and chances it has afforded us to reach out to you, our readers.
You can read the full article over on our website.
The Fansite Shorty Award 2013 is a tie between Sherlockology and 1D Updates.
We would like to congratulate @1Dneews, but most importantly would like to thank everyone who nominated us for a Shorty Award.
We are accepting this award on behalf of all our followers. Without you guys there wouldn’t be a Sherlockology. Thanks for believing in us.
