Success for Andrew Scott & Steven Moffat at the 2012 BAFTA TV Awards!

Andrew Scott tonight won Best Supporting Actor at the 2012 BAFTA Television Awards, beating out co-star Martin Freeman in the same category, while Steven Moffat collected a Special Award for his work in television writing.
An emotional Andrew Scott thanked the entire cast and crew during his acceptance speech, while on collecting his award from Benedict Cumberbatch and Matt Smith, a delighted Steven Moffat had to laugh and remark: “That’s Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Who. Giving me an award. That is Absolutely brilliant!” before going on to thank “my brilliant friend, and most brilliant collaborator, and in the words of Doyle himself, never better applied, the best and wisest person I have ever known – Mark Gatiss. And in many ways the least sung, but most deserving hero of Sherlock: The Woman, the producer – Sue Vertue. The best, and wisest woman I have ever married!”
Sadly, Benedict Cumberbatch lost out in the Best Actor category to Dominic West for his chilling portrayal of serial killer Fred West in the fact based drama ‘Appropriate Adult’, while Sherlock as a whole lost out to light entertainment show ‘Celebrity Juice’, despite a massive social media campaign by Sherlock fans across the internet.
In total, Sherlock took away a total of five awards from the 2012 BAFTA ceremonies, following the BAFTA TV Craft Awards two weeks ago that saw the series win for its Editing, Sound and Writing (again for Steven Moffat).
It goes without saying, congratulations to the winners, commiserations to the losers, and we’ll hopefully see some new nominations come the 2014 BAFTA Award ceremonies, when Sherlock will once again be eligible after taking a year off for the production of Series Three, beginning in January 2013!
