However, Andrew Scott is instead joining the panel on Friday August 24 2012, alongside Steven Moffat, Mark Gatiss and Sue Vertue.

The news was quietly revealed yesterday by the Edinburgh TV Festival Twitter Account.

Further details on The Town, starring Andrew Scott

Following the announcement of the series in mid-June, WhatsOnTV has expanded plot details for the upcoming ITV1 drama The Town, which stars Andrew Scott in the lead role:

The drama tells the story of Mark Nicholas - played by Andrew Scott, best known for his role as Jim Moriarty in Sherlock - who returns to the town of Renton where he grew up.

Mark’s drawn back to his old life but finds it hard to reconnect with his family, friends and first love Alice (Charlotte Riley), who’s now married with a child.

As the story unfolds, Mark must decide if he can build a new life in this strange place that he once called home.

Meanwhile, Martin Clunes plays the town’s local mayor, who stumbles from one PR disaster to another.

Kenton Allen, co-executive producer, said: “At the heart of The Town will be a family struggling to come to terms with change.

“The story takes place in a landscape familiar to most of the UK - most of the population live their lives in a place like Renton.”

The Town is currently filming in High Wycombe.

After reading today in the InStyle magazine that Benedict Cumberbatch had recorded a part on The Simpsons we did a little Google and found this gem of Fan Art.
The original post can be seen here (just scroll down a bit).
NOTE: This is FAN ART and not what will be in the actual show. We’ve no idea what Benedict recorded for the episode that he makes a cameo appearance in.
UPDATE:
After a little digging, we’ve discovered Benedict visited The Simpsons offices and recorded his cameo around May 17/18 this year.
A typical single episode of The Simpsons takes roughly five to seven months to produce from scratch, with scripting, vocal work and animation occuring simultaneously for the entire season. His visit to the writers room and subsequent recording for an episode in May would place him in the production schedule for Season 24 of the show, which begins airing on FOX from September 30 2012. Though nothing can be guaranteed due to broadcast scheduling, it looks quite possible that Benedict’s appearance would be in the earlier stages of Season 24.

UK: SHERLOCK CAST GALORE ON TV TONIGHT!

The United Kingdom is slightly spoilt for choice tonight, as there are no less than four separate dramas on television tonight [Monday July 2 2012] featuring the cast of Sherlock.

Firstly, on BBC One at 21:00BST is the first part of the political thriller Blackout, with Andrew Scott in the role of Dalien Bevan [pictured above, in a new image] opposite Christopher Eccleston, Dervla Kirwin, and Ewen Bremner.

At the same time on ITV3 at 21:00BST, there’s a repeat of Marple: Murder is Easy, the second episode of Series four with Julia McKensie as Agatha Christie’s detective, that features Benedict Cumberbatch and Russell Tovey. The episode is also viewable on ITV3 +1, which is handy to avoid a clash with Blackout.

Also on BBC HD at 21:00BST is a repeat of Wallander: The Man Who Smiled, an episode of the Kenneth Branagh Swedish detective drama featuring Rupert Graves, showing again to lead up to the new series starting on Sunday July 8 - the first episode of which is directed by Toby Haynes, the director of Sherlock: The Reichenbach Fall.

Finally, on Channel 4 at 23:10BST, Russell Tovey is on again in the first in the new series of Coming Up, the Channel 4 talent scheme where new writers and directors have the opportunity to make an original film with a guaranteed network broadcast. The thirty minute drama is entitled New Cross, and explores the theme of forbidden love. Also, an upcoming installment of Coming Up features Lara Pulver.

So, if you are in the UK, what will YOU be watching tonight?
